otb-chess is a browser-based app that watches your physical chessboard through your device camera and keeps track of moves locally while you play. The app is subscription-driven — we do not show third-party ads. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
Camera and game data
Video from your camera is processed in your browser on your device. Move detection uses on-device machine-learning models. We do not upload, store, or transmit your camera feed, board images, or live game video to otb-chess servers.
During a session, move notation and board state are kept in your browser memory so the on-screen board and export feature can work. Closing or refreshing the page clears that in-progress session unless you export or copy your game.
What we do not collect
- No account is required to play.
- We do not run a database of your games, moves, or camera data.
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not use advertising networks or ad tracking.
Premium export (Whop)
If you use Export to Lichess or subscribe, you may enter an email address so we can check an active Whop membership. That email is sent to our server only for subscription verification and is handled by Whop for billing and access. Payment details are collected by Whop, not by otb-chess.
If verification succeeds, a short-lived access flag and your email may be stored in your browser’s localStorage so you stay signed in on that device.
Third-party services
- Whop — checkout and membership verification for premium export ($5/mo subscription).
- Content delivery networks — open-source libraries and ML runtimes (for example jsDelivr) loaded in your browser to run the app.
Cookies and local storage
The site uses browser localStorage to remember subscription sign-in on your device. Clearing site data in your browser removes that locally stored state. We do not use advertising cookies.
Children
otb-chess is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. The date at the top of this page will be revised when we do.
